Victorian Santa Claus

December 6th is Saint Nicholas Day.  Saint Nicholas was a Greek and lived in what is now modern day Turkey in the 4th century.  His wealthy parents died when he was a young boy and being devoutly religious since childhood he vowed to do good things with his inheritance and help those in need.  The legend of his secret gift giving grew far and wide and it is believed that the legend of Santa Claus around the globe can be traced back to Saint Nicholas.

Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of Russia and his feast day of December 6th is one of the most important holy days of the year there.
