Free Vintage Clip Art - Billie Burke Song Sheet

Vintage Billie Burke Song Sheet (1919)

Billie Burke was an American singer and actress who will be forever known to generations as Glinda the Good Witch in the Wizard of Oz movie.  Born as Mary William Ethelbert Appleton "Billie" Burke in 1884 she was nominated for an Academy Award for her work in the film Merrily We Live in 1938.

She made her stage debut in London in 1903 and her Broadway debut in 1907 and soon became the toast of Broadway.  She married Florenz Ziegfeld (of the famous Ziegfeld Follies) in 1914.  She made her movie debut in 1916 with the title role in Peggy.  Burke continued to work on the stage and screen but her love was the stage because the stage allowed her to do speaking roles as movies were still silent at that time.

Her movie fate was sealed when she and her husband lost all of their money in the stock market Crash of 1929 and she had no choice but to return to making movies to earn a living.  She made her movie comeback in the 1932 A Bill of Divorcement in which she played Katherine Hepburn's mother.  This was the movie debut of Katherine Hepburn.  The Billie Burke Show on CBS Radio ran from 1943 t 1946 and she was on the radio in one form or another from 1932 to 1956 and she continued to make movies until 1960.

Billie Burke passed away in 1970 at the age of 85.

Free Vintage Clip Art - Vintage Song Sheet

Vintage Song Sheet

Alice, Where Art Thou Going?
By Albert Gumble (1883-1946)

This song actually made it into the Boy Scout Songbook!

Here are the first line of lyrics:

Alice, where art thou going?
Upstairs to take a bath.
Alice, with legs like toothpicks,
And a neck like a giraffe.
Alice stepped in the bathtub,
And pulled out the plug,
Oh my Goodness, Oh my Soul,
Alice, where art thou going?
Glub, glub, glub.

Here is the song sheet

I really love this wonderful, art deco lady.
This is a song sheet cover from 1930.  Originally, a french song written by Jean Lenoir, the English version was written by Bruce Sievier.  Lucienne Boyer first recorded the song, making it popular worldwide.

I love the graphic nature of this image, it's simple, yet powerful.
