Vintage Oil Lamp

Oil lamps were an alternative to candles for lighting. In 1850 kerosene lamps began to replace oil lamps and were continued to be used well into the twentieth century in small towns and rural areas.
The age and even the locality of a lamp can be gleaned by examining its structure, design, symbols, decorations and what its made of. Oil lamps are still used today but more for the ambiance it gives than for actual lighting.
Enjoy!
