A pinafore may be worn purely for decorative purposes or as a protective cover, like an apron.  Pinafores have seen a huge resurgence in the last few years, especially in the styles of the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's.  The classic American pinafore is called a jumper and worn over a blouse.

Antique Iron Line Drawings

Vintage Curling Iron

 I had no idea that curling irons dated back so far!  The first hair straightener with two flat irons was patented in 1909.   Actually, the use of a heated implement to curl hair can be traced back to the Babylonians.  Ancients drawings depict people with curled hair.  Metals were heated over an open flame which obviously made it very difficult to control or maintain the temperature of the implements.

In 1946, Jessie T. Pope, an African American woman from Detroit, invented a thermostatically controlled curling iron and patented it with the help of Eleanor Roosevelt.  

This is undoubtedly the prettiest curling iron I've ever seen!

Demand for antique rocking horses and rocking chair horses is so great that chips to the mane and ears is essentially overlooked.  Other things to look for:

The mane and tail should be real horsehair


The paint should be original and even if showing signs of wear the original paint is preferred by collectors


The saddle, stirrups and harness should be original


Antique rocking horses and rocking chair horses usually only become available through auction houses and demand and fairly good price.
