Vintage Street Lamp Silhouette and How Paris Became Known as the City of Lights

The first electric street lamp was developed by a Russian inventor in 1875.  These electric candles were first used in Paris to light the Grands Magasins du Louvre and Paris became known as the City of Lights.

The first street in the United Kingdom to have electric light was Mosley Street, in Newcastle upon Tyne on February 3, 1879.  The Public Square in Cleveland, Ohio became the first area in the United States to have electric street lights on April 29, 1879.  And Wabash, Indiana became the third city in the world to be electrically lit on February 2, 1880.

I hope you enjoy this lovely street lamp silhouette with it's branches and leaves!
