Vintage Easter Bunny
The Easter Bunny has its origins in Germany. In fact, it was the Germans who settled in the Pennsylvania Dutch area of Pennsylvania that brought the Easter Bunny to the United States. The first edible Easter eggs were made of sugar and pastry in Germany in 1800's.
The tradition was that the night before Easter children would build a brightly colored nest, usually out of a bonnet or cap in a quiet part of the home. If the children had been good the Easter Bunny would stop by their house while the children slept and lay brightly colored eggs in the nest. As the tradition spread the homemade nests were replaced by baskets.
