Eastern bluebirds are often seen sitting on telephone lines or atop a birdhouse. The males have the more brilliant royal blue on the backs of their heads and the red brown feathers on their chests while the females wing feathers are tinged with blue.
Eastern bluebirds are thrushes with a big rounded head and large eyes. They use nesting boxes and old woodpecker holes. They can often be seen dropping to the ground from their perch on telephone wires to grab an insect.
