Monet's Water Lilies
Oscar Claude Monet (1840-1926) was the father of French Impressionism. All through his life Monet painted in series of subjects. Water Lilies was painted in 1916 and was a series based on his own pond in his backyard.
Monet died in 1926 at the age of 86. His son donated Claude Monet's home, garden and waterlily pond to the French Academy of Fine Arts in 1966. Following restoration, Monet's house and gardens were opened to the public in 1980.
