Free Vintage Clip Art - Pretty Flower Backgrounds

Sunflower and Fuchsia Backgrounds

The sunflower is native to Central America and was domesticated 2600 BC and was found in the Mississippi Valley in Tennessee in 2300 BC.  The Aztecs and the Incas used the sunflower as the symbol for their sun gods.

Sunflower oil, which is extracted from the seeds, is used for cooking as well as used to make margarine and bio-diesel fuel because it is cheaper than olive oil.  Sunflowers also produce latex and research is being conducted currently to see if the sunflower could be an alternative crop for hypoallergenic rubber.

Wow, very interesting!

Sunflowers are also used to absorb and extract toxins from soil and were successfully used to extract radiation from a pond near the Chernobyl nuclear facility.

Even more reasons to love the sunflower!

I just bought a beautiful hanging fuchsia over the weekend and so this next image caught my eye and I had to share it with you.

These two images would make great cards or backgrounds for your ATC's or artwork.
